We’re recruiting people who’d like to take part in a walking and fitness programme that aims to help Norwich cancer survivors to become more active. By taking part in this challenge, we want to help you become more body-confident and improve your fitness and motivation! Whether you have been exercising for a while or are about to take your first steps back into exercise, this programme will help you to confidently set and reach your own personal goals.
What does it involve?
Mission Possible Norwich is a 12 month project which will include a monthly walking challenge that allows you to choose how far you want to go, weekly in person exercise classes at a Norwich venue, monthly walk and talks and support groups. There will also be community events to bring people together and a Whatsapp group for accountability, motivation, classes and events booking and communication.

What are the walking challenges?
Each month you can choose the distance that you want to walk. The options are:
- 13 miles – the length of a half marathon.
- 26 miles – the length of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru.
- 50 miles – the length of the Six Peaks Trail from Settle, North Yorkshire to Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.
- 73 miles – the length of Hadrian’s Wall which stretches from coast to coast in northern England and was built by the Romans to guard the north-west frontier.
- 100 miles – the length of the South Downs Way from Winchester, Hampshire to Eastbourne, East Sussex.
- 150 miles – the length of the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia, a spectacular route that takes in some of the best ocean views in southern Australia.
- 211 miles – the length of the John Muir Trail in California, USA which is said to be one of the best hikes in the world and goes from the Yosemite Valley to Mount Whitney.

Why should I join?
There’s heaps of compelling evidence that suggests exercise is particularly important for cancer survivors – it can prevent cancer from ever coming back. And according to the University of Cambridge, “just 11 minutes of brisk walking a day can help to reduce the risk of developing heart and circulatory diseases and cancer.”
There is also evidence that walking increases your blood flow, helping oxygen and nutrients move around your body, making you feel more alert and refreshed. It can also release natural chemicals that make you feel happy and positive like serotonin, dopamine and endorphins.
Sign up to our programme, connect with Norwich cancer survivors, share your experiences through our Whatsapp group and in person activity. Also feel free to join our private facebook group – Mission Fitness for our generic community updates and activity.

Is it free?
Yes, Mission Possible Norwich is completely free! However there will be an opportunity, if you wish, for you to set up a Facebook or Just Giving fundraiser for your walking challenge to help us continue to run the programme and to give something back.
You can find more information on how to do this here: https://www.mission-remission.com/set-up-fundraiser
You can also join us and become a Mission Remission member! For £5 a month, we will send you out a Mission Remission branded tee shirt which you can proudly wear whilst completing your walks and fitness activity.

I liked that we did different exercises and was able to push myself. I’m really enjoying them so far!
